I’ve had the pleasure of learning music theory as an adult with Martin Packman via Zoom, and I can’t recommend him highly enough. He is an exceptionally experienced and gifted teacher who brings real depth and clarity to the subject. What impressed me most is that his lessons aren’t just about passing exams or ticking boxes—they also provide genuine insight into the foundations of music. Rather than treating music theory lessons as merely a stepping stone to higher instrumental grades, he made the subject meaningful and engaging in its own right. His teaching style is clear, thoughtful, and tailored to the student’s pace and character, which made complex ideas much easier to grasp. Not only did I achieve an almost perfect mark in my Grade 5 theory exam but I now feel much more confident and inspired in both my understanding and appreciation of music both playing and listening.
